South Beach

Considered South Beach. The wife might be able to score a corporate rate at the Ritz or The Shore Club. While heard good things about both, was also made aware that the Shore Club isn't quite what one might consider kid-friendly. Since I have a soon to be three years old daughter, was wondering if someone here could corroborate that.

Yeah, I wouldn't classify the Shore Club as kid friendly.

The Ritz-Carlton on Key Biscayne would be my suggestion...but you won't have the nightlife options of South Beach.

More or less decided to split the stay between either Regent or Loews at South Beach (2 nights) and Mandarin Oriental (3 nights).

We are also planning a trip that includes four nights in Miami. We originally leaned towards the MO but after more research, we have now booked the Regent. It seems the rooms are larger, the property is almost brand new, and it is well-situated. It is also considerably smaller than the MO. Still debating whether to go for the rooftop suites with the 700 sq.ft terrace, but probably are not going to spend that much ($ 600 and upwards)...

Cheers,
T.

Got a $250 a night rate at the Regent so took that for the first two nights. Includes breakfast, so pretty good IMO. Heard so much about the MO property that decided to just relax there for the weekend. There's stuff for kids to do there, so worth a try. Great rate too.

Sounds good. Let us know how you liked them after your trip.

Enjoy!

Regent is new, and I guess Anderson Cooper had a nice stay a month ago...but be aware, the hotel is around the corner from the beach. No beach or water views. Nice location, yes. But if you are expecting waterfront or ocean view, no. One of the benefits is being just down the block from the Front Porch Cafe, perhaps the best breakfast/lunch on the beach. Plan on a short wait on the weekends.

Very interesting thread. Me and soon to be Mrs mktozd will be connecting overnight in MIA on our honeymoon. We will be landing at 11 pm and departing at 10:40 am the next morning. As this will be our honeymoon trip, I was hoping for something nice, but at the same time we would like to convienience of staying at the Miami Airport hotel (but have not heard good things about it). Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

Regent was phenomenol. The rooms were great, the service outstanding. The drawback, and part of it comes from how it is presented on their website, is that it is indeed off the waterfront. It isn't quite as bad as we felt while checking in-- they have their own private area on the beach with chairs (free) and umbrellas ($15), which is right across the street from the hotel. The pool area isn't much, or at least there wasn't much going on the two nights we were there.

Wireless internet access is FREE ^^

Breakfast was included in the rate and got NW miles for the stay. Also get UA and LH miles amongst some others (JAL and Cathay, if I remember correctly).

FYI, $32 fixed rate from Airport to SB in a cab.
