Beating the layover @ MIA
 

I'll be in MIA for seven (i.e. from landing to departure) hours (coming back from LIM, before going to SFO). What can I do during this time? Go to the beach?

Heck yes, I'm assuming your bags will be checked through to SFO. I also assume you will have your boarding pass for MIA-SFO.
You have plenty of time. If you have not been to Miami before, I would head to South Beach.
During heavy traffic, the travel time will take you 45 minutes from the airport. Plan on heavy traffic for the return, that leaves you with 4 hours at south beach (if you are also leaving 1 1/2 hours for checkin). More than enough time. Cabs are plentiful to catch back to the airport.

thats if you can clear customs. the lines there are a joke.. ive never seen such a rat race.

I have a 9 hour layover on a Sunday from Noon to 9PM. Any ideas on what part of South Beach or anything else to check out?

Any stretch of the beach between 5th and 14th Street. You can catch a very early dinner at 5-6PM just about anywhere you want, because dinner time in Miami is typically around 8-9PM, so the resturaunts aren't very busy at the time.

Well, you could always pick one or two big attractions like Vizcaya, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and the Biltmore, etc., but it will be hard without a car. I've never done the one in Miami, but I've heard it's popular, and I went on one in SIN once and enjoyed it.
