Favorite beach in FL?

I looked through the threads in the FL forum and realized there is no "favorite beach" thread.

So......what is your favorite beach in FL and why?

My vote is for Ft. DeSoto on the southern tip of Pinellas county: http://beaches.tbo.com/beaches/guide/fortdesoto.htm

Ft. DeSoto is a Florida beach w/out all the development/condos/homes, very pristine.

2nd place would be the beach on Marco Island

Honeymoon Island and Caladesi Island. Both are State Parks in the Clearwater/Dunedin area.

Sanibel Island. Clean and not crowded beaches. Interesting shops and restaurants. Family friendly.

Dr. Beach has a list of "what should a beach have?". One benchmark is restrooms/showers etc. We have a very nice beach on the Gulf-coast called "Lover's Key", it's a preserve .. no showers .. so not on the list!
Same might be true for California.

Siesta Key, by far. Whitest sand beaches on Earth. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

Yes, the beach on Siesta Key is very nice. However, it's somewhat cold in winter; about 5 to 7 F colder than Naples....brrrr.

May be you have the chance to see Upper Captiva. Beautiful beach, beautiful island. No cars, only golf carts. Can be reached by boat or private plane or boat shuttle from Pine Island.
