Silver Airways at FLL

Silver Airways at FLL
We will be flying back to the states from the Bahamas on Silver Airways, landing at FLL. It looks like we land at T1 and then have a connecting flight at T3. From what I've read, we will clear customs/immigration at T1, but I've also read it's not necessarily always open. Can anyone comment on this? We have a fairly tight connection since Silver pushed our flight back, so I'd like to know if I need to look into a later connecting flight...
