ATL | Is the Barbar Shop open?

According to ATL's website (see below), there is a barber shop in Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport and "seating available". I am not sure what "seating available" means. Anyone been there or passed-by the place? If it is open, can any traveler walk-in for a haircut? I cannot find a phone number to call.

I just found the website of the barber shop (see below). It has a phone number: 404-855-5203. I will give them a call tomorrow. But please post if you have comment.

I live in New York City. It is a bloodbath here and we are staying-at-home. I badly need a haircut. Since Georgia approved opening of barber shops, I am thinking to take a day trip to ATL. If the ATL barber shop isn't open, is there any barber shop near ATL?

PS. I am not sick. I am 99.9999% certain I have the antibodies and I am not a carrier of SARS-CoV-2.

Stay safe and healthy.

Barbar the elephant? Not sure this is serious.

I considered going up to ATL earlier this week just to have an actual meal in a restaurant. I'm getting really tired of takeout.

With FL opening restaurant on Monday though I figured I'd just wait until then.

I assume this means you have had COVID-19 and are now recovered. If so, I'm glad you're well and imagine it may not have been a fun period.

If you're able to be that certain, you should submit the evidence as a paper to the New England Journal of Medicine or a comparable journal and prepare for a (fully safe) trip to Stockholm to claim your Nobel Prize. Otherwise, there is no way you're that certain, as every medical test for anything has at least a 0.0001% false positive rate. Also, the medical community is not anywhere near that certain that someone who has had COVID-19 is immune from future reinfection or unable to still transmit the virus; the WHO said "There is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from COVID-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection." My understanding is that the best guess, based on other coronaviruses, is that previously infected and recovered people have some (unknown) immunity for some (unknown) time period, but that's in the ballpark of 70-80% certainty, not 99.9999% certain. So unless you have some reason to actually be as certain as you claim, my suggestion is that the risk to others of someone traveling from New York at this point is very much not worth the benefit of getting a haircut in Atlanta both for the risk of spreading the disease to Atlanta or contracting it while traveling and bringing it back to recovering New York. (I don't care about the risk to you; that's your choice.)

Personally, I had my spouse cut my hair, and it's perfectly good enough for the hours a day I spend on Zoom and to not have annoying tangles in my (fairly short, common male style) hair.

As do I, but I'm not sure why anyone in the right mind would want to fly into danger's path.

To attempt to answer OP's question, I know of a place on Virginia Avenue across from Delta HDQ called Randy's Precision Haircuts. A friend has gotten his hair cut there for decades. Your problem will be that even though openings are allowed, there is no guarantee that anyplace will necessarily be open. You could Google them and call to see what hours they are open. No idea about any haircut place within the secured area.

I'm assuming you don't live at the airport. As such, you'd have to violate the citywide stay-at-home order to get to the airport for your haircut flight:

NYC: Stay at home

  • Only go outside for essential tasks. Those tasks include working for an essential business, getting groceries and supplies, or securing necessary medical care. If you must go outside, keep at least six feet of distance between yourself and others, and wear a face covering.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water often, for at least 20 seconds every time, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Lots of us understand your frustration. I haven't been further than my mailbox and garbage dumpster since March 9th.

That said, this is a time when healthy people are being asked to make a personal sacrifice in order to protect more vulnerable people. The information that ashill provided is critical to understand why a trip to get your hair cut may actually endanger other people.

Please reconsider this trip. It's not essential.

It seems this thread was posted as a joke?

In my limited experience, it is almost impossible to determine when a post is a joke here. FT draws posters from the both of the extreme ends of the bell curve.
