I despise that shuttle bus ride.

I just returned the car to Avis's Canal St. location and walked the two miles home and it was so much more pleasant than the shuttle bus ride.

Here’s a bit of an odd one: My United flight from IAD last night parked at MSY’s gate A3, the mostly unused terminal. United usually departs and arrives at the “C” gates. This was a first for me. There was only one other gate being utilized in “A” for a Frontier flight.

The only aircraft I see down there is Breeze, a relatively new airline I have no desire to try.

I flew Spirit (which is in the process of buying Frontier) once out of MSY because it was the only option to arrive in BOS at a reasonably early time. I paid extra for one of their "big seats in front," and fortunately everything worked out just fine. But hopefully I'll have no need to try that again.

I have taken Spirit to FLL from MSY because at the time they were the only people to fly there (Mr. travelmad478's sister lives in PBI). And once Mr. travelmad478 took Breeze from MSY right to PBI. We contemplated taking Breeze's nonstop to CHS once, because the only other option was AA via CLT, but Breeze's price was so egregiously higher than AA that we ended up not bothering. We used to fly Frontier fairly often between PHL and MSY when we were doing that commute regularly--it wasn't bad at all.

I had an early morning flight out on AA the morning after the National Championship game that went out of A. Unsure if this was extra capacity for the game or if airlines use it for the large morning departure banks

From https://www.facebook.com/MSYAirport/

We’re continuing to improve safety and the passenger experience at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport thanks to Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding. This year we were awarded an additional S8 million towards constructing a dedicated roadway connecting the terminal to the south campus parking and rental car facilities to help reduce carbon emissions, enhance safety and connect the terminal to future transit/passenger rail facilities.

So we should expect this to be completed in 2028 or so? (And to inspire confidence, the link in the FB post goes to nowhere, just like the flyover!)

So where will the rest of the money come from?

That’s great news.

BTW, this past Thursday morning at around 6am the traffic on the I-10 west off-ramp and the roadway to the airport was the worst I’ve seen it since the new terminal opened; they had one lane completely closed off due to the continuing construction. Fortunately my Boston and NYC driving skills got me through relatively quickly; I suspect it took the locals a lot longer. 🤓

The award, which came from the Biden administration’s $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, is a fraction of the estimated $97 million that will ultimately be needed to complete the project. But airport officials said it is enough to begin design and prep work on the site.

No groundbreaking date has been set but the target completion date is fall of 2025, airport spokesperson Erin Burns said.

Part of the timeline depends on funding. Burns could not say where the additional $89 million will come from, but she said airport officials are pursuing several federal infrastructure grants.
...

The connector will be a separate roadway on pilings that travels on the east side of the campus. Going north from the south terminal, it will be positioned between the current airport access road and fence line, then snake around a runway to the north terminal.
