expensive flights to NOLA in early/mid august

Hello all. I am traveling to New Orleans in early to mid august after Jazzfest. I have seen airfares about 500 a ticket from JFK . Any reason why the airfare is so high going to New Orleans at this time? I am trying to get a good deal for tickets. Anyone recommend a time frame to book, certain day etc based on your experience? I appreciate your feedback

Also does anyone recommend a specific airline to travel there? I have looked mostly at Delta and JetBlue with the prices just about the same

No major events happening that would cause higher airfares, at least from what I can tell.

Try looking at flights out of EWR where I saw flights that are sub-$500 on UA. Also, make sure that youíre staying over a Saturday night.

Yes I saw no major events which is making me wonder why they are so high. I assumed since its the low season(events, heat etc) combined with hurricane season that the fares would be much cheaper. I will look into leaving from Newark. I had looked leaving from Philadelphia but I believe the prices are the same and I don't feel like driving 90 minutes to get the airport

I am looking to go either 8/8 Thursday- 8/11 sunday or 8/15-8/18(Thursday /sunday). I am wondering if I should alter my dates and come back on a Monday or Tuesday , leaving on a Saturday.

Try Southwest. Pretty big presence there and you can always book / cancel / re-book later if price goes down.

I’m also trying to get friends down to visit me right at that time and I was shocked at how high fares are (normally I can get things in the low $200s from the northeast). It is the lowest of low season. Odd.
