Quick Everglades visit/tour

I have always wanted to visit the Everglades and see an opportunity for a visit around some other traveling on a Sunday in February. I would be leaving Miami Beach around 12:30 and headed out on a short domestic flight from MIA around 7:30 or 8. I could push departure to 9:30 or stay overnight but that is not ideal.

Would it be crazy to do this? It looks like I could either do the tram tour/bike tour at Shark Valley Visitor Center or the Anhinga Trail at the Royal Palm area and perhaps some other things in that area. I'm sort of leaning to the Shark Valley area. I looked into air boats and there seem to be some serious negatives so I am going to pass on that option.

I think I will have to book a cheap hotel room where I can drop my luggage on the way out and then clean up on the way to the airport. It appears there is a car burglary problem around the Everglades--perhaps less so at Shark Valley--but even a small risk of having all my luggage stolen is not appealing. I see that there is a Centurion club in MIA near the American gates so I suppose that is an option.

Your thoughts would be appreciated...

well if you want Everglades with a full tourist twist see if you can make it to Billie Swamp Safari - Seminole Tribe of Florida

Yes, it's a tourist trap of the best kind.

Coopertown, straight shot out Miami and back to the airport. Coopertown Airboats
Less risk of traffic than Billie's, which is good as well.
