10 hours to kill in Miami
I have a flight this Saturday which arrives in Miami around 10 am, then connect to a flight to London which leaves around 8 pm.
I have two questions: 1 Does anyone know of a hotel at the airport where I can book a day room to leave my luggage and freshen up before the evening flight? 2. Do you have any suggestions for things to do within a reasonable distance of the airport? I've thought of renting a car and heading to the Keys, but would rather see a bit more of Miami itself. All suggestions greatly appreciated. |
I suggest you try asking in the appropriate US destination forum where I am sure this thread will be relocated. Just because you are flying BA does not really mean this thread is at home here, sorry. |
Pullman Miami Airport
Everglades tour? |
I drove from MIA to EYW a couple of years ago, took about 5 hours from memory. I don't think a drive to the keys is practical, even Key Largo is probably too far.
Its was FLL to EYW - apologies. |
The Miami Airport Hilton is a nice hotel with a pool and more of a resort feel than a simple airport hotel. They have a free shuttle bus from the airport.
There is also a shuttle bus from the airport to Dolphin Mall if that's your thing. You wont get long in the Keys with the time available to you. A taxi to South Beach will cost about $50. I'd do that - walk down Lincoln Road and then Ocean Drive. |

I would get yourself down to the beach. It's very quick by taxi.
The BA desks open at about lunchtime I think, so you can check your bags from then. Or else leave them at the airport in the morning to collect later for check-in. In the past I've had a day at the beach and then just showered in the lounge before flying home. |
If you're BA silver you can use the MIA AA Flagship lounge. They have nice showers and good food but it's not worth spending 10 hours there. Don't know about luggage storage. I think they have some lockers near the reception for hand luggage but I doubt if you can leave your luggage there and exit the a/p.

For those that don't know, to book a day-room at a Hilton, put the arrival and departure dates as the same day (and 0 nights) and you'll be offered the day-rates with the details containing the arrival and departure times permitted. |
Train or cab into town, South Beach and lunch in Little Havana :)

Agree with the idea that this is the wrong forum for this thread. If wanting a day room to relax, I'd recommend the hotel located within the terminal it is simple and cheap, much like an old fashioned hotel and totally fine for a day room. as others say, plenty to do in both Miami or Miami beach otherwise, both of which are easy to access.

I dont think it's practical to do the keys in that amount of time. Being a single road down you can easily encounter quite significant delays especially on weekends. I've been stuck in traffic upwards of 5 hours heading down US1 on multiple occasions now.
You could visit Oleta State Park in Miami which is nice, or travel a bit further up to Loxahatchee River nr Jupiter (fantastic kayaking if you're into that). Otherwise a trip to Hollywood Beach with the boardwalk might work well and is very close to Miami... Depends what you're after really! |
