Resort Hotel Options

We're researching a weekend somewhere on the Gulf Coast between New Orleans and Panama City Beach, FL.

My wife has specifically requested somewhere she can "sit on a pool deck" and "not lift a finger". We're more than familiar with the Hilton Sandestin Beach Resort and the Hilton Pensacola Beach. We'd like somewhere similar to that, but neither of those properties. Something with food/beverage service at the pool, in addition to spa facilities.

Can anyone comment on the Marriott Grand Hotel at Point Clear?

Are there any other options we're missing? What about smaller boutique properties? The casino scene in Biloxi doesn't appeal to us, but we're open to any ideas.

The Marriott Grand Hotel in Point Clear is an easy and popular small town weekend getaway 3 hrs from New Orleans. It has a nice spa. The town of Fairhope is charming and has a few nice restaurants (The Fairhope Inn and Camelias are popular). There is also a boutique shopping and a wine shop. The resort is on Biloxi Bay - so there is not a beach.

You may want to consider The Watercolor Inn or The Pearl (both in FL) if you want a boutique property near or on the beach.

The Grand Hotel is on Mobile Bay. There is, I believe, a small beach facing the bay. Gulf beaches (with surf) are in Gulf Shores.

I've stayed at the resort many times. There is a patch of sand on the water - but I wouldn't really call it a beach.

I'd look at VRBO. There are some awesome rental properties in that area. Cool low-key spots that are very private and amazing views.

The local paper in NOLA just ran a feature on the newly-renovated Grand Hotel.

We spent a night at The Lodge (by Hilton) at Gulf State Park.
