What is happening in ATL this week? (no vacancies!)

I have to spend the night in Atlanta on either Mon, 27 Jan or Tues, 28 Jan, preferably on the south side. A cursory search of my preferred chains shows that nearly everything is 100% booked. I'm puzzled. ATL has always been a place with plenty of rooms at great prices in the past, in my experience. Is there some special event this week? The return of Freaknik?

Conferences and trade shows usually don't have much of an effect far from the convention center or whatever is the epicenter of their event, as very few attendees would be willing to stay in a hotel across town from the event. In my case this week, I don't even need or want to be inside I-285, yet even the suburbs and ATL airport hotels seem to be fully booked.

I am finding plenty of availability on Priceline, Hotwire, Hilton and Marriott. Are you looking for a particular hotel?

Hyatt.com = 0 properties with availability
SPG.com = 0 as well
Marriott.com = about half are sold out

I ended up staying at a Carlson property.
