EZE - AEP
 

Hi everyone,

I am planning a trip later this year to Antarctica. However, since I'm coming from the USA I'll be landing at EZE. How much easy is it to get from EZE - AEP? How much does it cost? Any advice on a website I can check out for transportation options? Also do any airlines fly from EZE to USH? Thanks in advance for you help! It is much appreciated.

Juan Manuel Tienda shuttle is the bets option to get between the two airports (if there are 2-3 of you, taxi would be faster/cheaper). There should be a website. Shouldn't cost more than USD 20.

As for Ushia (sp), it's all there in the databases. If you want to try domestic fares, try www.legatours.com (I used them last year, asl for Mariela).

Ushuaia is accessible from AEP via Lineas Aereas del Estado (5U,) and Aerolineas Argentinas / Austral (operates AR codeshare,) a bit under four hours nonstop, but some flights make one or two stops. Round trip fares can often be twice the one way fare; a local agency can indeed be helfpul. AR has one flight daily from EZE, but AEP is much closer to town. OTOH, the AR flight to EZE is great if you are catching a flight on to the USA...

(I don't think Southern Winds is offering this flight, but avoid them in every case - they are in BK and totally unreliable, according to other FT posters.)

Ushuaia is a fun place for a day or perhaps two - Parque Nacional Tierra del Feugo, the old prisoner train, the Beagle Channel boat trip to the Estancia Harberton ranch, some nice seafood restaurants (ask for "centolla", pronounced "cent-oh-juh" in Argentina,) the large Southern Ocean king crab. I like the funky but nice and friendly "Tía Elvira" restaurant myself.

"Foto Santa Maria" has photo stuff, and tons of nice postcards. The Muséo del Fín del Mundo” (Museum of the World’s End), includes four smallish rooms with interesting Fuegian and Antarctic artifacts and a mangy collection of bird specimens, INFUETUR near the pier you will depart from has guide booklets, some souvenirs (Antarctic logo hats, etc.) and a stamp for your passport - "La Antártida Argentina" - Argentine Antarctica. (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway, the UK - all have claims on at least a part of Antarctica... and the US and Russia assert the right to make claims; South Africa and Germany have allowed their claims to lapse. :rolleyes: )
