Paraguay Driver/Guide

Heading down to ASU over the 4th of July weekend. Obviously, not the most touristy place, but I got some wild quotes ranging from 300 to 500USD a day for the tours I was looking at.

I'm fine with self guiding if someone has just a driver they recommend.

Just wondering if anyone has any agency recommendations down that way.

Thanks.

Where are you planning to go in Paraguay, and for how long? If you're just in Asunción for a few days, I can't imagine why you'd need a driver. If you're planning to travel around the country for a while, that would be different.

If you're just staying in Asunción, most everything you'd want to see is in the city center, which is very walkable. The bus system is also quite easy, assuming you speak enough Spanish to be able to ask for directions and the like.

To the OP, did you go? Did you find a driver? Did you get around on your own? Easy to do as M60toLGA says.

I've been to Paraguay a few times for work. I love it. Hardly anybody goes there, except for Brazilians and Argentinians. I always feel like I've planted my flag there and it's "mine." ;)

While it won't do Long Train Runnin any good at this point...apologies for missing this.

I spent 2.5 full days in Asunción at the end of March. I inquired with the hotel (Crowne Plaza) and was recommended - Asuncion City Tour - WhatsApp +595961777005.

The first 1/2 day, I wandered around the historic area and found a tourism office - sort of - and the same firm was recommended. Apparently, as well as I could figure out, there is not much tourism structure in Paraguay, at least not English-speaking. I did two trips. And I am thinking the 'firm' was a solo person. I did a 0.75 day trip around Asunción and it was $100. And then I did a Golden Circuit trip, a full day, and it was $200.

I had the understanding that if he found others, my cost would drop proportionately. I thought the tour was quite good although I rarely spend that kind of money as I very much like to do my own thing. But with such a short time, I thought it best to pay the $.

Yeah, I ended up going. I found a driver via a different travel group. It was $120 for the day, and we did the golden triangle route, chartered a boat over to the Chaco region for a bit as well. Then went our to the English Village in Sapucai.

I do think that it would have been okay to get around on my own. Not the driving nightmare I've seen in other parts of SA.

Certainly, a very unique country in South America, certainly not a place you'll see/meet a lot of other tourists.

Yes, I concur. Very unique. At some point, I'll return to southern SA and pass back through as I'd like to explore the Chaco region, on my own. That said, for Asuncion itself, I was glad to have a knowledgeable driver/guide so I didn't have to drive and navigate and sightsee.
