Travel Chaos, Pope visit, Chile Peru Jan 15-21, 2018
 

A heads up to avoid or replan traveling to or around Peru and Chile in mid-January, 2018. This is a huge event for Latin-Americans, and especially Argentines are planning to swamp Chile and Peru to see their compatriot, who has put off traveling to his home country due to political reasons.

He will be visiting Peru January 18-21, with masses in Lima, Trujillo and Puerto Maldonado.

The specific locations for the masses in Chile are Santiago, Temuco in the near south, and Iquique in the north, from January 14 to 18.

Completely avoid the passes to Chile around this time, except in the far south, as they will be completely blocked by crazy traffic. Authorities in both Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina are expecting chaos and hundreds of traffic deaths due to this event.
