Cash or card on Easter Island?

Travelling to Easter Island and unsure whether we should withdraw cash on mainland Chile, or wait to withdraw cash on Easter Island - and also whether it's normal for hotels/ restaurants etc on Easter Island to accept credit card rather than cash?

Get your Chilean pesos in Santiago and have USD cash as backup.

Might be what, two ATMs in Hanga Roa? And they may not be working for various reasons which also means the credit card system can go down.

Remember, you will be in one of the most isolated tourist destinations in the world.

Less stress and hassle to have CLP and USD cash on hand and if your credit card works at the moment, great.

+1 to cash. There might be a few expensive places that might take CC but it is pretty much cash. Don't remember being able to get any of the ATMs to work year before last.

Fuel station at the junction between airport and town has the best conversion rate for USD.

As for the location's remoteness, bear in mind that the closest diversion for IPC is.... SCL!

Bring cash with you as others have said. I prepaid lodging and tours via PayPal ahead of time and did use my Visa card at a few restaurants. Remember you need cash at airport on arrival to buy your national park pass which I believe is still $60 USD
