Colombia Ecuador flights to be considered "domestic*"

*For the purposes of airport charges, exit fees and fuel surcharges

Means a discount of 20% (according to article) on costs from Ecuador to Colombia or from Colombia to Ecuador.

Extract

"Flights between the two countries will be treated as "domestic," causing prices to drop by between $50 and $100, following a bilateral agreement between Colombian and Ecuadorian aviation authorities.

The price reduction is a result of the removal of international airport tax, which can be up to $70, and the elimination of the fuel surcharge, which is approximately $30."

Excellent. Maybe the next time the Colombian Air Force needs to take out a terrorist camp across the border in Ecuador they can avoid sparking a diplomatic crisis by citing the new "domestic" flight tax policy!

Thanks for the post.
I can just see the justification when the governments double their exit taxes that now your tax is paying for two countries.

Now just get Hugo to join in and Simon Bolivar will smile in his grave
