Stability of SAA

I'm looking at purchasing tickets with SAA for my trip next summer. They definitely have the best routing for me from JFK to JNB and from JNB to Kruger Park. Do you guys think its risky booking so far in advanced with SAA financial issues?

It's unlikely they stop this route, the routes to the US are among the most important. Regardless, as long as you book on a credit card, you will be fine, whatever happens with SAA.

It is something to think about for sure. Here is my upcoming case. I booked a trip from IAD to JNB this December using my United miles. If SAA folds more than likely United will put us on another Star Alliance flight....Turkish, United, Lufthansa for example. I also have a flight reserved with Delta....DTW to JNB. I am a Platinum Medallion with Delta so I can cancel my booking at least 72 hours in advance with no issues. If December rolls around and SAA is still flying I will not have any issues flying them to JNB, The safety of thew planes do not concern me.

So basically I have a contingency plan with SAA...that makes me comfortable given their current situation. I do understand that not everyone can have such a plan.
