SAA confirms 32 flights cancelled due to cabin crew strike

"SAA passengers across South Africa have been affected by flight delays caused by industrial action by the airline's cabin crew. International and regional flights were affected ahead of the Freedom Day public holiday and long weekend, causing chaos at airports."

Yesterday was not a good day at CPT. We had booked JourneyBlitz redemption tickets to JNB and on to IAD for travel yesterday and although the IAD flight was not cancelled we had no way of getting to JNB to connect. A two hour wait in the SAA *G ticket sales line (which was a quarter of the length of the main line) to be rebooked on today's flights after much arguing.

Because these were JourneyBlitz award flights SAA ticket sales was difficult about rebooking and was pressing us to request a full refund of points and taxes. They then only offered us flights for Friday saying that they couldn't rebook us on today's flight because the flight number is different (today is SA207 via DKR whereas the other days are SA209 via ACC). It took some convincing but eventually we got there....

From my observations waiting in the queue, it very much seems like pot luck depending on which agent you got and how hard the person argued.
