USA / Washington DC / Airports / IAD (Washington Dulles) [Now closed]

Terminal C, Gate C4
Very small, lousy ventilation and usually jammed before the time that flights to Europe are set to depart

Terminal D, Gate D30
Large, good ventilation and at the very far end of Terminal D
(it's a long walk if you have a flight in the C gates but if you have the time, it's better than the one at C4)

Terminal B, Gate B37 and Gate B73
I have not been to the one at Gate 73 but the one at gate B37 is small and can get a bit crowded around the times some LH and LX flights depart

I did not see a smoking lounge yesterday at the C gates, but did find the one a D30 and agree it is well ventilated and in a good location.

My only gripe is that I arrived at C6 and Departed from D21. I cannot believe how long a walk that was......

Perhaps I didn't see the one at C4 because I didn't pass it.

Iirc, C6 & C4 are not as close as the numbers might indicate and the C4 smoking room is located almost at the end of the C concourse on the right hand side as you walk towards the end of the C gates

Yikes.... I swear I thought I was walking forever to get to that other gate. How do they expect people who might be elderly or disabled to go that far? I didn't even see the electric carts to move those people between gates like they do in EWR. Perhaps I was there too early (6am).

So the other smoking room is at the OTHER far end? Yikes.... that really is far to go. But at least they have them, of which I was grateful.

Yes, IAD is a pitf* as it is a <inserting my Boston accent here> wicked long walk from one end to another and this map should give you an idea (and you can see that C6 and C4 are not that close and the smoking room at D32 is at the very end of the terminal) - and remember, that if you happen to go to the Lufthansa or Turkish lounges in Terminal B, there is a small smoking room near/opposite B37. And as to arriving too early, IAD remains open airside 24/7 and with that, so do the smoking rooms**

*"foot"
**having spent a night or two or three airside due to irrops and no hotel availability tho food locations (or in my case, coffee ) don't open until around 04:30-05:00)

"Happy" user of the B-Gates smoking facilities, which happen to be well-located for a user of the BA Lounge facilities

The B37 is particular well-located for the BA l/h boarding gates [42/44] but it's a disgusting hell-hole these days. Gone are the days when you could press a bell to get waiter service from the Bar next door
The B73 is more civilised - just.
