Which hotel in Italy?
Mangia Cane right outside Florence.

Just had a very pleasant 3-day stay over NYE at the Infante Sagres in Porto. Got upgraded from entry-level room to a junior suite.

If I use my Hyatt credit card at a SLH, will I get the Hyatt bonus? Or am I better off to use a Chase card I have that gives 3x UR points for hotel stays everywhere?

I did some digging after posting the above. My concern remains that a SLH property won't be coded properly to get the credit card points. What has been your experience?

Just saw this disclaimer on the Hyatt booking page when checking prices on an SLH hotel;

We are one for two on upgrades at SLH properties on current Europe trip. Executive Room to Junior Suite at Le Narcisse Blanc in Paris. While I don't believe we were upgraded at Villa Spalletti in Rome, we were very happy with room assignment (nicely sized corner room overlooking the Quirinale gardens).

We just stayed at The George in Christchurch, NZ for 3 nights using points. In hind sight, Hyatt cash rate would have been better value than using points.
I was recognized as World of Hyatt member, not as Globalist. We were upgraded from Premium Deluxe King room (300 ft2) to a Junior Suite with balcony (450 ft2). Free full breakfast instead of continental breakfast per Hyatt T&C.
Location of the hotel was great, across the Avon River from Hagley Park, close to Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Christchurch is a very small city, so everything is easily walkable.

Here's a question - I am looking at an SLH hotel for a stay (paid, not free). On Hyatt.com the property shows no room availability, however, on SLH.com it is available.
If I book thru SLH - will I get my Hyatt stay credit & points if I provide on check-in?
Very confusing - I asked my concierge and all she said was that they "hold some rooms back" but unclear what the status is as it relates to Hyatt earning.

No. And unfortunately, SLH often offers better terms. I looked at their property on Koh Samui. If I booked on Hyatt, it was immediately nonrefundable. If I booked on SLH, I could cancel until 2 weeks in advance and get a number of additional benefits such as airport pick up and massage. It's very disappointing.

Indeed. And as I don't have it in me to pay the Hyatt $ premium for SLH stays, my use of Hyatt's SLH partnership is almost entirely limited to when I'm redeeming Hyatt points for stays at SLH properties. And since Hyatt elite status really doesn't matter -- at least not in any systematic way upon which I can rely -- when redeeming Hyatt points for SLH stays, it's one way for non-Globalists to cash out Hyatt points and get breakfast included for the stays.

I just noticed this too... Has it really been true since the start of the program? My only SLH experience was at the Hotel Haven in Helsinki (before they left the program) and I know that I spent some of my employer's money at the bar there and I thought for sure I got Hyatt pts on the full amount. Am I misremembering here (it was years ago) or is this a YMMV type of thing?

Staying at the Naples (IT) Parkers SLH in Aug. So it sounds like even thought I don't officially get an upgrade as a globalist, they still might upgrade me based on others experiences. There are 3 of us so I'll have to book 2 rooms since none of the award rooms allow more than 2 ppl. But What if they upgrade us to a Suite at check-in? Will they allow me to cancel the 2nd room?

Per WoH T&C, all Hyatt bookings are eligible for one-class upgrade at check-in.

SLH one-class upgrade is a marginally benefit. It usually only to a slightly larger room or the same room with better view. I have not experienced anything beyond one-class upgrade although other FTers have reported receiving suite upgrades.
