Sounds great except

I called Delta today to book an Upper class award seat on VS and they spent sometime checking to find out that only coach seats may be booked using Skymiles.

If anybody knows different please advise as I still have the Delta (only) res on hold

You can book UPPER... finding availability might be a different matter though!

So far so good for Garuda Indonesia and it is definitely still on track to officially join SkyTeam as the alliance's 20th member in March 2014.

The airline is now rolling out its new Y, C, and F service and from what I have seen the C service is very impressive.

Such a move would end Virgin’s cherished status as an independent carrier, but many of the world’s leading airlines are members of one of the three global alliances.

Delta is a senior member of SkyTeam, and Mr Kreeger said it would probably be unthinkable for Virgin to join one of the other two alliances – Star or Oneworld.

SkyTeam could generate new sales for Virgin as the alliance provides a base on which to form code-share pacts with its 19 members.

But Mr Kreeger said Virgin will weigh up joining against how it already has code-shares with 10 airlines.

Is Garuda finally allowed by the FAA to fly into the US?

Their plan is for 2014 service last I saw. I think they still need Indonesia to be upgraded to category 1, though. They also need some more 77Ws and some runway work at CGK.

I think GA is in the same boat as VN, they are awaiting approval by the US to "up" their countries status to Category 1. But don't expect to see VN in LAX, SFO or ATL anytime soon, 2015 is the most likely launch date. GA should launch in the 2014-2015 timeframe, subject to all regulatory approvals.

CGK works should be done in the first half of next year, LGW got delayed, I hope everything goes to plan!

I don't think ever have enough range. Because the 77W doesn't have enough range. I think GA will have to order the 77L aircraft instead of 77W aircraft. The 77LR has more capabilities, more fuel-efficient, and increase the range as well.

There are unlikely to be any further new entrants (beyond those currently known) for some time.

Interesting, thanks. Anything more specific than "March 2014" as previously announced? Google has not yielded much.
