I would like to see the following Airlines join in the near future:
Malaysia Airlines - MH
Skyteam desperately needs a strong Asian carrier. Vietnam Airlines is joining next year but their destinations are limited.
Jet Airways - 9W
King Fisher - IT
Wouldn't hurt to have an Indian based carrier in the alliance and I am assuming that if one joins eventually both will be members due to their alliance.
China Eastern - MU
From what I have heard the former chairman of CZ is now the head of MU and he has already expressed interest in bringing MU into Skyteam. With their entry Skyteam will have a dominant presence in all the major Chinese cities.
China Airlines - CI
China Airlines has been talking about starting new flights to Europe that would originate in Taiwan but fly via a Chinese city. The Airline has a strong presence in Asia and has immense potential to grow.
Japan Airlines -JL
If Delta is able to buy a stake in the airline JAL will most likely switch to Skyteam.

>>GOL
>>Avianca/TACA

More desperate than any new Asian member, the first priority should be a new member from South America and in my opinion GOL is the front runner with possibilities of the new merged Avianca-TACA as another good option.

I doubt there is any incentive for LA to switch to ST, Star on the other hand is another totally different proposition.

TAM is the best, and it will join Star Alliance in April 2010.

How do you deduct this from the article? Do you have any "inside information" or is this pure speculation?!

Looks like the Skyteam executives agree that Asian carriers should be their focus for new members

http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news...117_54972.html

Delta, along with Korean and Air France, are doing whatever it takes to get JAL to defect to Skyteam.

Looks like after Vietnam and Tarom join as full and associate members. Garuda and CI may be joining the following year. We may also see MU and/or JAL, we'll just have to wait and see...

Using on-line translation software:

According to the president of KLM quoted by the Dutch magazine Zakenrais, China Eastern could join the alliance Skyteam at first of the year 2010.

The company China Eastern is the third airline company of China. The company is based to Shangai.

The crisis had a strong impact on China Eastern that posted a net loss of 1.7 billion Euros in 2008 (figures published the 15/04/2009) after a decrease of the number of passengers and to the high cost of the kerosene as well as to bad options of covers.

The alliance Skyteam already understands another Chinese airline company: China Southern.

With the merger of Avianca and the TACA group, since Copa is now in *A, I wonted if the combined Avianca-TACA will decide to look at Skyteam as a possible option. I know TACA had applied to enter *A and Avianca has code shares with severa Skyteam members. It would be nice to have another Latin America Airline.

This article (in German) states that Gol intends to join an alliance in the near future, and is in discussions with SkyTeam and OW - not surprising given it's FF partnerships with AF-KL and AA.

With the latest developments (there is a separate thread), I think it would be a fair guess than JAL might be the next member of SkyTeam.

I just came into the AF lounge at CDG 2E and noticed a sign outside saying, "JAL passengers are welcome in the Salon Air France." Now, if that's not a dead give-away, what is?
