Bad news re MH
For all of us who think MH might still join SkyTeam one day this should be a rather unwelcome development...
2008-12-05 19:38 - Quoting reliable sources, Sin Chew Daily reported yesterday that the merger talks between Malaysia Airlines, Qantas and British Airways were moving into the final stages. The proposed merger will not entail equity stake, adopting instead a profit splitting strategy. Moreover, the three airlines will maintain their roles as "national carriers" of their respective countries, and will keep their own brands, staff and a major portion of their routes. I've no idea how reliable these sources are. |
guess its good news for 1W. two airlines merging is itself tough, wonder what it will be with 3, even though it is not an outright merger.
|
I don't think the sources are that reliable. If there was anything real, we'd hear about it from British media, who are obsessed with BA (even if the quality of their journalism isn't always very high).

probably the wrong thread to post in but i recently booked a flight with Malaysian Airlines. Can i get miles to my Skyteam account or for any other alliance i am member in?

I also doubt the reliability of this. There's been a lot in the press (and official announcements) about the proposed merger between BA and QF but no mention anywhere (well, apart from this site) about MH.
|
Hmm, maybe the source was more reliable than at first thought...
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Malaysian Airline System (MASM.KL: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said on Tuesday it is in talks with several airlines including Australia's Qantas Airways Ltd (QAN.AX: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) for possible tie-ups. http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssI...R8679520081216 |

The QF / BA merger is now off.

Still, this is very far from "... the merger talks between Malaysia Airlines, Qantas and British Airways were moving into the final stages."

But still bad news for those hoping MH may join SkyTeam. MH would fill a hole in South-East Asia for OneWorld, but the hole is much bigger in SkyTeam.
|
Which, speaking of South East Asia, I suppose raises the question of how is Garuda going in terms of their proposed SkyTeam membership (and their goal of becoming a 5-star Skytrax rated airline)?
