SkyTeam from HKG to BKK
 

From HKG to BKK on a Skyteam member airline.
this is a tuff nut to crack.

Since SkyT. has a low presence in Asia.
Thinking about CI:641 from HKG to BKK
in May this year but will CI be a member then??

KQ flies it 3x weekly (Su, Mon, Thur). The other option is a CZ connection; you are very limited there. I wouldn't laugh off the 1000 miles, but I also wouldn't go too far out of my way to get the miles if the timing stinks.

If you have a Chinese passport/visa, you can take the quick train to CAN and fly direct on CZ.
If the dates suit you, the fares offered by KQ in business class are pretty amazing!

I think KQ is proably the best option by far. Discounted tix are available from agents in HK.
If you do CZ from CAN then you have to buy a higher fare ticket to get any miles (depending on the program crediting to), most Skyteam carriers don't give miles for most of CZ's Y class fare classes. This is only compounded by the truly awful CZ Y seating.

(I'm just assuming the OP is flying in Y since nothing else was mentioned)

I forgot about KQ.
Their HKG/BKK arrives at Mid-nite but if one needs the miles
then I can't complain
