For me it is a question of practicality, nothing about the quality of Skyteam. Living in HKG and travelling to major financial centres, New York and London, with Peking/Shanghai/Tokyo OneWorld just works best for me, as I originally followed the home town airline CX (until they magically made the MPC so much worse for me).
In comparison have flown 295 times on CX, and that includes exactly 100 flights just on their 747s! Before retirement of course. Won't let me on their 747Fs.

1. Aeroflot for HKG/CAN - Europe travel (ticket is normally cheapest, and it is a daytime flight to Europe)
2. China Southern for domestic travel within China, and for CIS via URC (the most direct route to Central Asia is via URC)
I think oneworld is the crappest among the three alliances, because it offers no domestic flight within China, no flights within Africa, and no direct flights between Hong Kong and eastern Europe, i.e. the service to less-developed regions in the world is lagging.

So I just flew UX long haul for the first time, JFK-MAD-JFK. Pretty bad experience all around.
I'm a Delta PM, and so SkyTeam Elite Plus. There was no call to board STE+ members, unlike on AF/MU/AZ, etc. This was at both JFK and MAD. The seat I booked for the return flight was given to someone else and I was put in the back of the plane. I get that seats are guaranteed but going from row 15 to 40 was a nasty shock. Their soft product was just okay. But I'm a bit surprised they fly their older and crappiest jets to JFK. Their A333 needs to go to a farm upstate real quick.
All in all, I want to fly more SkyTeam long haul to experience it, but DL/AF/KL are just so much better than the rest of the alliance.

For me only KE
For my father, he's done CO pre-2009 NW possibly pre-Skyteam Alliance AF/KL when he went to Europe for work from MNL. When he did a Skyteam alliance flight in January-February 2009 KE JFK-ICN-MNL and return MNL-NGO/NRT-DTW-JFK the NW B747-451 lacked PTVs in economy which KE B747-4B5 have
