KLM to brief unions on alliance Thursday -sources
Dutch KLM (Amsterdam:KLM.AS - News) has invited trade union leaders to a meeting on Thursday to discuss air alliances, three union sources said on Tuesday.
Two of the sources told Reuters they expected the union leaders to hear an outline of plans for KLM to join the Air France-led (Paris:AIRF.PA - News) SkyTeam alliance, which they believe could be officially announced as soon as early September.
"We are getting close. There is a meeting on Thursday on alliance talks," one source said. The sources said KLM had told them the meeting would deal with alliances.

KLM jumps, traders believe alliance decision made
Shares in KLM (Amsterdam:KLM.AS - News) rose sharply on Friday on reports the Dutch carrier had chosen Air France (Paris:AIRF.PA - News) as an alliance partner and traders said they were unconvinced by KLM's denial that it had.
According to rival media reports, Northwest Airlines boss Richard Anderson told a U.S. Chamber of Commerce gathering that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines that KLM had "definitely chosen" Air France as its partner.
KLM spokesman Bart Koster said that report was not true and that no decision has been taken...

Air France to acquire KLM
An alliance between Air France and Dutch airline KLM, amounting to a takeover by the French airline, is to be made official when their boards meet next week, the financial newspaper Agefi reported on Friday.
The boards are to meet on Wednesday, the report said.
Once a two-stage share exchange has been completed, thge holding of the French state in the Air France group would fall from 54% to 20%, the newspaper said.
French Transport Minister Gilles de Robien had said on French radio Notre Dame on Thursday: "Air France can link up with KLM and this would not conflict with a reduction of the state's holding to less than 50%."
