SkyTeam Article in Aviation Week
In-depth examination of SkyTeam in the Nov 17, 2003 issue of Aviation Week and Space Technology. Summarizing:
Expansion of ST is not an overt objective, but the AF/KLM near-merger will bring a powerful new member to ST. At a later stage, KLM's longstanding partnerships with Northwest and Continental will reinforce ST's US membership.
Aeroflot is appraising proposals for membership submitted by Star and SkyTeam. The carrier is said to be leaning towards ST although a decision is not expected to be imminent.
Possible ST associate membership will be discussed by the ST governing board in 2004. Potential associate members are said to include Royal Air Maroc, Tunis Air, TAP/Air Portugal and Middle East Airlines.
If ST's current enlargement plan becomes a reality, the youngest global airline alliance will control nearly one-fourth of the world's traffic.
