CSA's entry into the international SkyTeam Alliance is official

AS had been predicted,
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum...ML/000012.html

the Czech government is reported to have approved Czech national airline CSA's entry into the international SkyTeam Alliance and agreed to give AF and DL, two of SkyTeam's leading members, a 15% stake in CSA by 2002.

Entry into SkyTeam is now scheduled for March 2001. The recently modernized Prague airport will soon add space to one terminal and build a new one within three or four years.

Break up the SkyTeam before IT TAKES OVER THE WORLD!

And doc, I would have had neverending respect for you if you had titled this topic "Czech Mate for the SkyTeam".

opus17 -- how about "SkyTeam Czech is in the Mail"?

I'm also surprised that FT's own "Czechsfan" isn't more interested in this link-up...

Is CSA jumping the gun? No mention of the airline's membership at all at the SkyTeam, Delta, and Air France websites..

See my comments in the similar topic in the Delta board regarding CSA.

So who's next? Thai or Alitalia?

Maybe AZ is the more "desparate" one and thus the next to step upto the plate for SKYTEAM!

I hope Thai! The possiblities for bad puns are unlimited... I can see it now ... "Sky Team Thais one on", "The Thai goes to the Sky Team".

My apologies to non-native English speakers.

THAI isn't too bad according to what I've heard, but Alitalia??

Don't they heed a good presence in South America? What's up for grabs?

TG is excellent!

The Delta-Air France SkyTeam will announce in the next 30 days two significant additions that it believes will bring it closer to matching the breadth of the other major global alliances, AviationNow.com affiliate Aviation Daily reports.

After a new SkyTeam cargo venture is formed this week, within 30 days CSA Czech Airlines (pictured) will be announced as the fifth member of the global alliance. CSA, which the Daily learned will officially join SkyTeam April 1, 2001, would provide a boost in Eastern Europe, providing new code-share opportunities for SkyTeam founding members AeroMexico, Air France, Delta and Korean Air. CSA will add Eastern Europe in the same way Austrian Airlines gave an Eastern Europe boost to Star Alliance last year. In addition, Korean Air will rejoin Delta and Air France in code sharing next year.

I used to always think it hilarious that CSA's business class product in the pre-revolution days was "OK Class".

I mean, is it still "OK"?

OK was the civil aircraft registration code for Czecoslovakia (like N for the US, F for France, D for Germany). I assume it still is for the Czech republic.

I'm sorry, but I just have to look at SkyTeam and laugh. CSA? Come on!

Delta is world class, but these partners they're coming up with are bordering on the third world.
