SkyTeam proposed new name??

I read this a few minutes ago and thought it might be interest

>>>
According to a very serious source at Air France, the Global Allianc AF/DL/AM/KAL will certainly be named "SkyTeam"
But there is a problem...this name is already registered by a small german company, so, they are thinking of another name if they can't reach an agreement with this company...
But this small business has just changes its URL. (They gave up www.skyteam.com for www.skyteam-ul.com).. Is it a sign of an agreement?

I remind you that this new global alliance will certainly be launched this month in New York City.
<<<
Any comments about this name?

It's awful - it's bland and frankly silly.

At least "Star Alliance" and "Oneworld" suggest some form of aspiration. "Sky Team" sounds like a catering company.

That was one of the possible names I had heard..

Personally ... I could care less what they call it as long as it works. A rose is still a rose by any other name ... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Beckles, you'll still be flying Delta by name and by deed.

opus17 Mar 6, 2000 5:33 pm

Delta has SkyMiles, KAL has Skypass.

The French like to use "Team" as an idiom, so SkyTeam sounded to me like something Air France would go for.

Not sure what AM gets. Maybe they'll settle on "El Skyteam".

James -

You said Beckles would "still" be a DL flyer. Is that insinuating that the rest of us will be long gone form the DL ranks?? Are you jumping to *A as was discussed before?? Traitor. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Actually, I think DL has been traitor-like to us! I could have dealt with them dumping SR, but ALL of their European partners - that's ridiculous. Who in their right mind is going to fly AF to CDG and on to Portugal instead of the code-share on TP which they're ending??

When's you trip over here that involves that lllooonnnggg layover in CVG - or has it been and gone??

Cheers.

Leo.

No Leroy, what I meant was that I don't expect the alliance to be heavily branded as such within the US, particularly on domestic routes. Delta is a strong and respected brand - why dilute that in the home market?

I'm not going anywhere via CDG if I can fly direct from London http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I don't know about my trip yet - I can't confirm the dates so I can't make the reservation. It does mean that I am less likely to spend 5 hours at CVG though http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif However, there don't seem to be too many seats open on LGW-ATL in April. All those families going to see Mickey for Easter.

Anyway, if "Sky Team" want to win me over, how about a big launch bonus (with the emphasis on the big.

SkyTeam just sounds so NOT FRENCH...I can't imagine that one flying with the frogs.

What they ought to do is hire a Canadian marketting firm...they're the experts at finding names that work in French and Anglo. (If the junior partners don't like it, well, tough...it's not like anybody is banging down their doors these days!)

With both Aeroflot & KAL on board, a whole bunch of new names come to mind:

Risky Business
Extreme Alliance
Take A Chance
Search & Rescue
The Black Box Alliance
Go For It
Thriller
nextworld

According to the article, "The alliance is to be complete in 2003." It seems as though they're a bit slow as far as alliances are concerned???

doc Mar 22, 2000 6:47 pm

Still like my original proposal and I think it's still available: "DAWN"

It carries the proper connotation of a new day/beginning, begins with the letter "D" for Delta (arguably/inarguably the "dominant" member) and perhaps most importantly, it is an excellent moniker for

"Dissapointing Alliance Without Name!"

"With both Aeroflot & KAL on board, a whole bunch of new names come to mind:"

What's wrong with "thirdworld"?

All they need now is Air Cuba and Vietnam Airways.
