Companion Pays For Seats on KLM if I'm DAL Platinum?

I am currently Platinum on Delta and using KLM on two different trips this year. One from AMS-DUB and another from AMS-CPT. I am able to select any seat including Economy Comfort for myself, but I need to pay a fee for my wife? Is that correct that only the SkyTeam ElitePlus member gets the seats for free and not any traveling companions?

Unfortunately yes. This is true even for Flying Blue elites. However "standard" seats are free for both parties, so you can stick your wife in an inferior seat and keep economy comfort for yourself.
