Does marketing or operating carrier apply for mileage

Hi, is the marketing or operating carrier that applies for mileage credit in Skyteam?

For ex., i have a ticket with DL number, class X, operated by AM.

So i am trying to figure out how much it gives on DL/AS program.. Thanks.

operating carrier, based on their translation of the marketing airline's booking class

And how does the booking class translate (in my example, for instance)?

So with Skyteam, there is no chance to know which FFP to use for mileage accrual and how many miles will you earn for a srespective flight? Hmm...

Sorry, Kiwi Flyer, this is wrong. In Skyteam, in contrast to Star Alliance, the marketing carrier determines the number of miles you get. So if you have bought a flight with a Delta flight number operated by Air France and would like to credit your flight to Alitalia's program, your miles are determined by the amount of miles that Alitalia's program gives for Delta flights in your booking class. So in Skyteam you can always find out beforehand how many miles you'll get.

Be careful about crediting to AS or trying to get AS flights (marketed or operated) credited to a SkyTeam program. AS isn't a SkyTeam member, although it does have bilateral partnership arrangements with some SkyTeam carriers, currently including DL. SkyTeam rules don't apply here.

Does it mean that Delta "X" class (operated by AM) doesn't earn anything at all on AS?

There is no 'SkyTeam' program. There are airlines that are members of Skyteam with their own FF programs. Don't look for alliance-wide earning rules.

If you want to know what carriers, purchased booking classes, and flight numbers which can earn in Alaska Mileage plan, check the Alaska forum or www.alaskaair.com

Quite likely. A flight marketed by one airline and operated by a second airline is unlikely to get the ff miles into a third airlines ffp, unless all 3 are in the same global alliance (Oneworld, Star Skyteam). There are some written exceptions like AA miles on QF marketed flights operated by EK.

Delta website:

The marketing carrier is determined by the two-letter airline code in the flight number. So if your flight has a DL flight number, it qualifies for our mileage crediting rules.

Resurrecting an old question

I'm about to take an Aeromexico-coded flight, operated by KLM. i,e, KL metal but AM flight number.

My FFP is with Saudia. So all three carriers are firmly within ST

Saudia's Alfursan gives different mileage credits for KL and AM. Which one will apply in this case?

It seems to me common sense the answer is AM, the marketing carrier, but a STAR-fixated colleague is adamant that metal wins in code-share tussles.

Thanks for that!

Though, inevitably, AM is the weaker generator of miles
