Jumping ship to AM.

I decided today to jump into AM's FFP after going back and forth for a long time looking at DL's horrendous returns for economy flyers, so I'm about to jump ship to AM. Does anyone have any experience with the program? I still fly Skyteam and I'm mostly interested in getting miles for award flights. Elite status is not important form me.

Hi Discoseal,
I have been a AM and DL FFP member for about 5 years now, and i would say there are several advantages over and disadvantages between the two FFP.
Advantages: award availability is a lot better specially if flying with AM or Air France. and you can book most of the award trough the website. i was able to fly bizbiz AM: TIJ-MEX-CDG and UX: FCO-MAD AM:MAD-MEX-TIJ for 80k miles 2 year ago ( i think now you need 100K miles).
Customer service i would say it's better than DL but not that much.
Phone booking: If you know what flights are available on their partners you can guide them to book what you want pretty easy.
If flying with them, their service in biz is average. hard product is getting a lot better but soft service it can be amazing some times, but mostly is average.
They have free drinks on Coach and Biz. and still serve food on some long flights.
First checked bag is free (domestic or internationally)

Disadvantages: The award taxes are bad. not as bad as BA but for the trip i mentioned (biz AM: TIJ-MEX-CDG and UX: FCO-MAD AM:MAD-MEX-TIJ) i spend around $350 USD per passenger, which i think it's kind of expensive.
also, it's only worth to use your miles if flying on partners or flying with them internationally. if you use them to fly domestic (in Mexico), you can usually find cheaper fares on low cost airlines than the "taxes" you pay with them.

overall i would chose AM over DL but that's because i live near Mexico and i can drive over there and depart from TIJ, and i usually fly to europe or south america.
Hope this helps.

I joined AM a few months ago. Recently, I've had 2 issues with them:

1. Not crediting miles that I am owed to my account (the flights don't even show up on my account) - Strangely this is only a problem for Aeromexico flights, but not Skyteam partner airline flights

2. Showing the wrong fare class and giving too few miles (i.e. I fly China Airlines fare class Y which should give 100% accrual, but the flight shows up on the AM FFP website as class Q and I only get 50% accrual) - This has been a problem for flights with other Skyteam airlines

I haven't gotten a chance to call AM to fix these issues yet, but I'll comment back later when I do and let you know how much luck I have with their customer service.
