Which SkyTeam Program to join?

I will be taking one deep discounted business class Europe-Japan return trip on KL(outbound)/AF(inbound). I don't expect any further trips on SkyTeam.

Is there any point joining a SkyTeam program? I'm thinking this flight might be enough points for a short haul trip sometime/somewhere? Or should I not even bother?

No point for 1 cheap flight. Best to look KL/ AF is a partner on one of your other FFP's or new FFP that you could get miles.
AS has KLM/AF as partners http://www.alaskaair.com/content/mil...ePlan-partners

Thanks. Probably no point then as I currently have membership with BA and TK and not looking to change any of this. Just thought two long haul business plus two connecting short haul segments could add up to something useful.

It's a shame to waste miles that you have any possibility of ever using. Check what your fare class earns on various SkyTeam carriers. I'd be inclined to suggest parking the miles with DL because their miles currently don't expire. Maybe if five years, you'll have another SkyTeam flight to credit. Also, in 2015 DL is starting one way redemptions so you might get a coach ticket for as few as 12,500 miles. You could easily earn this for your flights if your fare class gives 100-150%.

They probably could. What other airlines have you flown or likely to fly in the future? Alaska is a good catch all due to its many partners. They tend to have offers from time to time to buy miles at good prices, so you could get enough for an award. The non expiring Delta miles, as above, is also a good idea
