CI to codeshare with Transaero instead of SU?

As per below article, CI will be code sharing with UN between TPE-BKK-DME

Why would they not code share with their ST partner SU?

I asked why to CI flight crew they didn't have an answer. I am not a fan of domodedvo I prefer SVO CI gave up landing slots at LHR that's crazy I think but it was a loss making route for them. I don't understand them at all.
Then again what's the relationship between Air France and Japan airlines? Inter-alliance relationship happens

This might be part of why CI codeshared with UN instead of SU.

That seems quite a ridiculous and over the top way of an effort to avoid pissing off mainland China. How many other global flag carriers fly into TPE now? It's not a small number and most of their countries also have relations with mainland China. I guess Russia missed the memo that even Taiwan and PRC have direct flights these days and the pissing match has mostly diminished.

Whether this is ridiculous is one thing, whether it's over the top is a different thing.
To me, it seems it is not necessarily over the top as Russia has a special relationship with China and will therefore go out of its way to get not involved in what it perceives should be considered a purely intra-Chinese problem. It is sort of a sign of respect for the wishes of a long old partner. I think this is hard to criticize and highly unlikely to be out of fear for "pissing off" China.
I would say though that it is ridiculous. This private opinion of mine is due to the fact that I think China is too unrelaxed about Taiwan's existence. IMHO they should just get over it and move on. We're talking about a little island compared with a mega-sized giant after all.

Air China has a sub-fleet of planes that don't have the PRC flag just for cross-strait flights.

This is always the funny and ridiculous part. Beijing wants to avoid the implication that cross-straight flights are international flights so they get rid of PRC flags. But in reality, who cares? :D

They don't even unpaint PRC flags to fly to Hong Kong. Is Hong Kong an independent state now? Not sure what those people are thinking...
