Whatever happened to Bangkok Airways ever joining?

Hi

Was reading some old articles from 2008 about Bangkok Airways joining Skyteam. Does anyone know what's happening? Doesn't seem any recent news.

With the global financial crisis, Bangkok Airways went through a few financial difficulties which they are supposedly coming out of now. That probably took their focus off joining an alliance.

Their only other alliance option with Thai being in *A would be OW but I don't see what they would offer them. Given Bangkok Airways' codeshare partners, which cover ST, OW and unaligned carriers, they may well choose to remain unaligned.

PG network has shrunk significantly these 2-3 last years due to the situation in Thailand + the shutdown of Siem Reap airways and the loss of the PNH-REP route. Their situation is maybe improving but competition is announced on their "monopoly cash cow route" BKK-REP where they charge a premium for a 30 min flight, so they have to remain prudent. This being said, PG is a very nice airline and they would be great in Skyteam in complement to VN. They have a nice partnership with AK & KL, so it would be logical that they join Skyteam but VN would maybe not so happy of this.
