Sixt Instant Status

I just applied for a Sixt Card and was intrigued by their dual track for status. If you rent more than 5 times in a year, you will get upgraded to Gold. If you rent more than 20 times a year, you will be given Platinum.

BUT...and this is the interesting part...most F/Ters can get one of these cards immediately -- based on their status with their airline or hotel chain.

For Gold, you need minimum elite status (Silver Medallion with Delta, Hilton Gold, etc). With some airlines, like El Al or Lufthansa, simply being a member is enough.

For Platinum, you need a higher level. OnePass Gold or Hilton Diamond will suffice.

I don't know how carefully they check. Last year I was Gold with Delta and went down to Silver this year. I decided to give myself the benefit of the doubt, applied for Platinum, and said I was Delta Gold. When I finished filling out the form, I was told that my application would be reviewed and that I would be sent either the Platinum Card or the proper card to which I am entitled.

(In other words, if they contact Delta, I will be sent the Gold.)

Generally I rent with Hertz, but I think that in Europe -- especially in Germany -- Sixt may be the better deal.

Gee, and I searched through every thread in this forum before posting. :D

Actually, I never would have thought to look in the LH Forum for information about Sixt. After your post, I did a search and came up with 305 hits on various forums -- but no way to know which just mentioned Sixt in passing and which gave the information about its status levels.

That is why TalkBoard voted to recommend that Randy start this forum -- to make it easier to find info like this.

Dovster:

Good that you posted it here ... I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

But what happens if and when I have a Sixt status?
Sixt is a good company, but often not cheaper than Avis, National etc.
Does this Sixt status - what ever it is - count also for Sixti? Sixti has some good rates for a Volvo in Germany ...

As far as I can tell, having a regular Sixt card means that you have a special line like Hertz's Gold Club.

Having Sixt Gold status gives you that line plus a 25% discount on standard rates and guarantees you a rental within 12 hours of you asking for it.

Having Platinum gives you the line, a 35% discount, and a guarantee of a rental within 6 hours.

I don't believe that any of this applies to Sixti.

can I just add that even with only the 'regular' Sixt card, I have had upgrades 3 out of 3 renting from AMS (twice from Golf to Merc E class, once from Golf to Volvo XC70). :D

If only they still gave BA miles......

If you live in Germany you might get better rates with the "Happy Digits Sixt Card". Gold/Platinum gives you 25%/35% off the INTERNATIONAL RATES, while the the Happy Digit card gives you 20% off the EUROPEAN RATES.

For my personal rental pattern I almost always get cheaper rates with the Happy Digits rebate (I have two Sixt cards and decide for every rental which card to use).

YMMV!

I applied for the Gold Card ... see what happens.

That's odd -- they did not ask me to send them a copy of my Delta Gold card (probably a good thing as it expired a few months ago).

Nor did I get a letter telling me that my Sixt Card has been issued.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Just one thought: My application must be driving them nuts.

My Delta Account has an American address.

I gave them my German MasterCard number.

I used my Israeli address and driving license.

:D

Tell Sixt you work for http://www.mossad.gov.il/Mohr

... and you will "make them an offer they can't refuse".. :D

I think I will just hand the problem over to my Used Italian Girlfriend's godfather.

An update on pricing in Germany:

Sixt has about the same pricelevel like National and Avis.
I booked Sixti for half the price...and will get A Volvo S-40 or a Ford Mondeo.

Sixti change their rules:

The most important changes in the rental conditions:
• No charges for cleaning, refuelling and reservation changes
• Increase in the free kilometres to 500 kilometres for vehicle categories above the SMART
• Increase in the maximum rental period to 100 days

Doesn't the S40/Mondeo class cost EUR 49 per day at Sixti? In my experience usually you get at Sixt a similar car for about the same price, but then you still have all the benefits of your Sixt express card depending on its color. For me the most important (Platinum):

- Usually no waiting, no hassle, good service
- Renting a Mercedes A class on average I get a Mercedes C class (in Germany)
- 2000 LH miles at certain locations, if I use ring&rent
