Booking at MUC

Hi,

longtime lurker here. I have rented a bunch of times in the past from this location and all has been great. I have a few things on my mind that I want to share, hopefully getting some personal experiences from you etc.

- Travelling to MUC Airport (and driving to Garda area) in July
- Would love to do it in a special car but not super interested in paying a rib and a half (+km limit that comes with the high end cars)
- I have a booking (not pre-paid) as a safeguard for a M340i. Thought process here is that in case the prices start skyrocketing like crazy, at least I have something

In the past I have rented e.g. a X5/X3 M40i and at the desk negotiated a decent paid upgrade to M8. This allows no km limit and no deductible insurances to be picked (since at the desk the limitations no longer exist).

I have Sixt Platinum (through Amex) and assume this has no impact on anything since according to the discussions here, there are 2 Platinums, of which I have the worse one (received through CC, not earned by booking).

Questions:

1. Am I limiting myself by booking a guaranteed model now (M340i). Should I take e.g. a 530 and see if I get upgraded automatically if there is no availability?
2. What are the chances of a paid upgrade NOT being available?
3. Any tips, ideas or experiences?

It's a during special occasion (proposal) so I also am on the brink of just caving in and paying for e.g. a 911 cabrio to make everything perfect.

Let me know!

1. Depends on what MUC availability is during your dates, I'd say some sort of upgrade from a 530 is a more enticing prospect.
2. Can't comment for MUC sadly, but most Sixt locations I've been to in Germany always had something to offer
3. You could sometimes get a nicer car by choosing some rare spec variant, eg diesel, but not sure if they still offer these.
If you're willing to gamble, pricing sometimes drops off closer to reservation date, but again very much depends on location

Is MUC your starting point regardless? I wonder if you could get a better deal by renting closer to Garda, eg at VRN - although from what I'm seeing prices there are silly, 50eur/day for a Corsa!

Thanks for the reply buddy. I will keep these in mind now. Started to consider just booking the "goal" car (e.g. SL63 convertible), but a bit afraid of the insurance excess (can't be brought down to less than 3k iirc).

Definitely going to book from MUC to make sure the vehicle is special :D
