Standard Elite SUV at SFO

Looking to rent at SFO and head up to Tahoe in winter. Need larger suv, more than 5 seats. On website Sixt has GMC Acadia as standard elite. Is that really what they are offering? It just does not seem like "The Car" in any way. Curious if anyone has seen the SFO fleet recently and seen what vehicles they have in that car class.

Also... What is the likelihood of AWD/ 4WD?

"The Car" refers to their higher-end models. They have plenty of Altimas, Camrys, RAV4s, etc in their fleet as well if you don't want to buy-up to the nicer classes. It's marketing after all. As far as a Standard Elite SUV goes, a GMC Acadia is pretty common but so is a Ford Explorer or Chevy Traverse.

AWD on any of those models is hit or miss. You might get one with AWD standard or they might make you upgrade for a fee. It depends a bit on luck, what they have on hand when you arrive, how good of a mood the agent is in, etc.

Super-helpful. Thanks.
Sounds like I need to commit and shell out for the awd. Hertz and Avis usually don't even offer the option to reserve that, at least not at SFO.

It can be hit or miss. We see the most options in terms of AWD-guaranteed models with Enterprise/National/Alamo. Feel free to PM us if you need help.

Will be renting RFAR at SFO SIXT as well. I am pretty fine with Traverse and Acadia. Both have pretty good extras even in basic trim (Sourround View e.g.) - Otherwise you can get basic Highlander's or CX-90. They don't even have rear parking sensors, and the CX-90 doesn't even have a touchscreen.

Currently the XCAR class (BMW X5) is just slightly more expensive than the RFAR section and the BMWs are always good equipped. I would prefer RFAR because of the size If I can get a Acadia/Traverse, do you think they will let me pick this instead of the BMW? Does this count as downgrade (XFAR -> RFAR) or is it a upgrade?
