can I drive into Canada from Seattle?

I'm looking to rent at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Seattle and ultimately return the car to SEA airport. Does anyone know if I'm allowed to drive into British Columbia during the rental?

The terms seem to say it must stay in the continental U.S. but I've found a few posts on here from Sixt that seem to suggest British Columbia is allowed.

Any help is appreciated. If not, I may just have to rent from another company right at the airport when we land (not as convenient for our plans..).

Why? Avis, Budget, and Hertz all have rental locations in the heart of Seattle.

Attempting to pick up on Thanksgiving Day, and we're staying at the Hyatt Regency. All of those seem to be closed on Thanksgiving but Sixt is open.

If Sixt won't let you drive their car into Canada, your other option is to take the train from Downtown Seattle back to the airport on Thanksgiving Day and rent from there. Whether that would be more or less of a hassle than picking up a rental car at the airport on the day you arrive is something only you can decide.

Once rented from Sixt TPA and upon reading their t&c closely, was surprised to find that the vehicle could not be driven into the state of Ohio (one of a number of "prohibited" states I planned to drive through). Seems like they want to keep the car in it's "region", maybe either in some attempt to curb vehicle theft or reduce milage put on their vehicles. Guess it wouldn't hurt to ask, but I cannot imagine taking a car out of the country would fly well should something happen, given such stringent restrictions within the USA. Good luck!

Sixt USA has this concept of "Region" where cars rented from a given location cannot be driven out of a handful of neighboring states. I just looked at receipts from my last few rentals with them, at least in 2018 when I rented out of SEA the contract stipulates the vehicle cannot be taken outside WA/OR/ID, that is BC is excluded.

To second one of the above replies, I remember doing plenty of one way rentals YVR<>SEA with Avis/Budget/Hertz, never a problem.

I've rented from the Hyatt location recently. On my reservation it says the following:

GEOGRAPHICAL RESTRICTIONS: The rental vehicle may only be used in the state
of pick-up and the following states: British Columbia (Canada), California,
Nevada, Oregon, and Arizona (the "Region"). If the vehicle is driven outside
of the Region, we will charge you an excess mileage fee of $0.50 for each
mile the vehicle has been driven during the rental. This fee does not limit
in any way the total amount or any compensation owed to us under this
agreement.

I'm not sure about the region thing, but I did some research and found similar outcomes as OP that it's allowed within continental US.

Upon my completion at JFK, I had a chat with the staff, and she confirmed that it's fine for me to drive into Toronto from NYC. Though I can't find any webpage confirming the fact, I'll call sixt to confirm if I were you
