Sixt Manager False Accusations (Miami)

I was an avid renter of Sixt rental company. Luxury cars at those rates nobody was able to compete. I was a diamond member with Sixt until an incident we had at the Miami international airport location. The manager LIED! I was accustomed to renting from the Fort Lauderdale location it’s the only time I would go to Miami would be to return a car. On this occasion I picked up a car in Fort Lauderdale I was not too happy with it and was advised to go to Miami to exchange it being that they have a bigger selection. I got some Miami international airport location and when I approached the counter the guy at the counter had a not so pleasant attitude. I advised him I came to switch out my car and I would prefer a Cadillac CT6. He tells me he doesn’t have anymore and the only car he can put me in at the moment was I believe a Camry. I told him I would not except it that was not the class that I booked and I wanted the appropriate car. He decides he’s going to give me a Volvo. I go outside to the booth where you pick up your rental and I ask did they have any Cadillac CT six in the lot. The girl advise me as they had one and she can send someone to go and pick it up. The car gets their mind you now I went to the outside booth and exchanged what they originally wanted to give me for the Cadillac. The guy comes outside when my husband and I is getting ready to get in the car and states we can’t have that car. When we asked why his response was because he doesn’t want to give it to us. That’s one of the workers advised us they like to hold certain cars for their personal customers. I was highly upset and to make the matter worst the police were called out for no apparent reason. I told the officer there was no problem. At this point I just took the Volvo and called the Fort Lauderdale location manager and explained what was going on. The manager apologized and told me to come to the Fort Lauderdale location and they would have a Cadillac CT six available for me. I get to Fort Lauderdale long behold the car I wanted was available. Every time I went from s at this point I just took the Volvo and called the Fort Lauderdale location manager and explained what was going on. The manager apologized and told me to come to the Fort Lauderdale location and they would have a Cadillac CT six available for me. I get to Fort Lauderdale long behold the car I wanted was available. Every time I went from Sixt I always have the car for a minimum of three weeks. Moving forward 28 days later I returned the Cadillac and go to pick up a new rental. The Fort Lauderdale location is so accustomed to me that once they see my name my rental is usually parked up front so once I get there all I have to do is swipe my card and go. This time I get to the counter and the manager who is helping me apologizes and says that I’m on the do not rent list. She advised me to call the security department. I made the call and the person I spoke to on the phone told me the reason I was on the do not rent list is because of the situation that happened in Miami. The manager claims that my husband and I were using racial slurs and expletive towards her employees. What upset me is the fact that there was no manager insight when this was happening. I asked the security specialist I was on the phone with why don’t you guys go and rewind the surveillance videos of that day and you will see the manager never came out when all this entailed. She just blatantly lied. All I was told on the phone because of what the manager said they basically sided with the manager and it broke my heart. I have referred so many friends and family to Sixt. And they didn’t even give me the benefit of the doubt about the situation that happened and just blocked me. If I was wrong the situation would’ve never bothered me by being that I know I was in the right is a crying shame. Do not I repeat do not go to the Miami international airport location. They are nothing but LIARS there.

First off, it would help if you hit the enter key occasionally. Having actual paragraphs with separate thoughts would make things easier to read.

Second, it's the rental company's prerogative to rent (or not to rent) to whomever they wish. Additionally, cars are typically reserved by class. If you reserve a car in the luxury class, it could be one of a number of models unless you book a guaranteed model class. That's just the way the industry works. While you may think it's your right to have any car you wish with a luxury car reservation, the rental companies (Sixt or otherwise) would not agree. The fact that you went to a different location to plead your case and voiced your dissatisfaction in a way one or more employees perceived as harassing or abusive didn't help your case.

The bottom line here is that you had unrealistic expectations of what you were entitled to, and then apparently handled yourself in a less than professional way, which is what led to being put on the DNR list. You can try to appeal your case with Sixt, or you can consider it a learning experience and start a relationship with a different rental company.

The other option, assuming your husband is not on the DNR list is to have him rent instead of you. As a Sixt Gold (or above) member (3+ rentals per year required), additional drivers are free in the U.S. Good luck!

Thank you for the response. I have been renting cars long enough to know what to expect and what not to expect. I booked a rental in that category that’s why I was expecting that particular car. As stated before I was doing business with them for a long time and I was very disappointed by the professionalism I received from that particular location.

Pleasant attitude work both ways, People react to what is said to them.
Police would not have been called unless their was some issue.

Just rent from another car rental company

You guys are coming to conclusion without being there. If something was said or done. How was I able to leave with a car and go exchange at another location? My husband is 6’3 and weighs 300 solid pounds. Maybe he was intimidated. I don’t know but I do know how to conduct myself.

For all of the back-and-forth about what was and was not present, you have not denied that you or your husband used racially insensitive language. Defusing racially-charged situations is something the police do and it also causes operating businesses to "fire" their customers.

Sixt has fired you as a customer. That is not a decision made lightly.

You may always spend more time trying to get yourself off the DNR list, but it is unlikely to happen anytime soon. Thus, best to work out a relationship with another rental company.

I don’t use racial slurs. That is not in my nature. As explained the manager stated I used racial slurs. She was not there when the incident occurred that’s what I’m trying to explain. How can she have witnessed anything? Two, why not pull the surveillance and question other employees who were there? Honestly, I’m over Sixt I just wanted to share my experience at MIA. I just took my business and money elsewhere. Even if they offered to take me off their DNR I would never GO BACK!

That is exactly what Sixt wants you to do. Take your business elsewhere. This is a win-win. Sixt does not want you and you do not want Sixt.

What you are failing to recognize or acknowledge, especially for someone who is an experienced renter, is that booking a “rental in that category”, does NOT guarantee a particular car. An axiom which is true for all car rental companies. Wishing you all the luck in the world with your new choice of car rental company.

1) Never post when upset you original post had way too many grammar errors and how you wrote you came off as entitled.

2) When did this event happen?

3) what was your purpose in posting? Did you want people to just read it and move on, did you want people to read it and give you warm fuzzy hugs and tell you were right and SIXT was wrong? What I got out of it was, you were entitled to the car YOU wanted and everyone else was wrong.

4) don't attack people who respond to your post, it shows how childish you are.

Indeed, but the only thing we know is what we can read ourselves from your account of what transpired. The way you phrased your post was in a bit of a "watch out for these criminals, do not rent from them"-tone, which is one people typically try to take to do as much damage as possible to a company they feel has wronged them. In general this forum tries to look beyond the face of things when it comes to car rentals, so many users out here may be skeptical about such posts.

Regardless, them having a CT6 available, but claiming not to have one sort of started off the row. To this, on their end, I think they just wanted to keep it in reserve as a potential upsell to other customers, perhaps, or in any case, your renting it would not fit with their scheme, so the situation sort of highlighted that the floor doesn't communicate directly with the counter. This is aggravating, I can understand.. On the other hand, flying off the handle, feeling as if you reserved a specific vehicle (when you yourself state you are fully aware you can only reserve a category, unless the category is specifically made for one vehicle) will not help in de-escalate situations. I think the racial slurs etc is a bit of a generic term Sixt used in this particular context, whether you actually used any or not, getting into a heated argument over the rental of a vehicle where the police has to be involved is enough for Sixt to put you on their DNR list. Which on the other hand I can also understand from them.

As far as I am concerned, this is a frustrating situation for all parties involved, but it's also perfectly solvable by just staying away from each other. Life's too short to be frustrated over stuff like this. As others have said, just take your business elsewhere and be happier because of it.
