Is this really true?

Called Sixt about an upcoming PREPAID rental in December. Very hard to find a real person on phone, ended up calling the rental location and getting a call center somewhere.

1. The reservation says the car will only be held for 60 minutes from reservation pick up time. The flight number is in the reservation. I called and asked if they monitor the flights and hold the car for a certain time after the flight lands if it is late, and she said no, miss 60 minute time and "it's a free for all what car you get."

2. My return flight was canceled and I booked a later flight. Now I have 4 hours to fill. I would prefer to keep the car for the full 8 days (as stated on rental contract) aka 192 hours and miss the reservation return time, but she said it would be an extra expense to do that but had no idea what that charge would be.

Yes, that is their ridiculous policy, but in all honesty, they rarely will give you a hard time if you are a few hours late. They understand that flights are delayed and such, so they are understanding, but they can fall back on the 60-minute reservation hold if they so choose.

Rentals are priced on a 24-hour day. Typically you can keep the rental for the full day without being charged extra, but in recent years, some companies have started assessing late fees if you go over X hours. For example, Avis/Budget charges a late fee after 6 hours while with other companies like Dollar/Thrifty it's 12 hours (more info here). I don't want to make any guarantees, but I would think returning 4 hours later would not incur any additional fees, as long as the total rental length was not more than 8 days.

Thanks AS.

I normally stick to Enterprise and Budget, but Sixt was so much lower than everyone else, like 50% ($600 vs $300) prepaid I couldn't say no. There's no one-way fee in Sixt's "service areas," in this case AZ, NV, CA, contributing to the difference.

What location?

I rent frequently from SJC. They could care less about what time I pick up usually. I can pick up early or late and they still honor the rate. However, it is true that they might not have the car class available and make you wait until they can find one.

SIXT charges based on a 24hr block for 1 day. If you pick up later, you can return the same time as pick up (ie - 8pm pick up/8pm return). There should be no extra fees. The system recognizes the billing day as a 24-hr day. Same applies if you pick up earlier - just return earlier.

The system will quote your pricing based on reservation time, but charge based on actual pickup/drop off times.

Location is LV but I can’t call them, number rolls over to call center.

LAS is high volume, baggage claim can be unbearably slow, and the shuttle can take forever, not to mention that Sixt isn't even in the main rental center. I would be shocked if they gave anyone a hard time about being late for a pickup. My guess is that the vast majority of their customers are more than an hour late to pick up.

Follow up:

I was at Sixt counter LAS with keys and
checked bags 45 min after landing, or 10:15a.

Returned car at LAX at 10 am no issue with going over return time.
