Stinking ashtray of a car

I picked up a car at Sixt Manchester Piccadilly last week.
As I got into the vehicle I was struck by the overpowering stench of cigarettes.
None too clean interior either.
With places to get to I just set off on my way. My, very wrong, assumption being that the smell would improve once I whacked the AC up high for a few minutes.

A Sixt Platinum card holder , I rent from Sixt UK all the time. I've never experienced this before.

We have a 3 month old infant and my wife absolutely refuses to put him in this car, she's right too.

I feel insulted and ripped-off.
The car is unsuitable for purpose.
It's due back tomorrow, I'm not looking forward to driving 20 miles back to the rental branch in the filthy vehicle

Your chance to fix the problem was when you picked up the car.

a sixt platinum card does not make smell go away.

and a problem can not be fixed by just posting your displeasure on flyertalk; you actually have to bring it to someones attention at the place you did business with.

OP: Could we have an update on the situation? :)

Hi pointy,

I am sorry that the vehicle rented to you had a smell of smoke.

You wrote that this is the first time you experienced this type of service at Sixt, so you already know it's not indicative of our usual service. Nonetheless, it only takes one bad experience to forget the good times.

Of course it's better to raise the issue at the branch at time of pick up, then we can take care of the problem straight away but I think we all agree it's infinitely better if the problem doesn't exist in the first place.

Can you send me a private message with your reservation number, at the very least I want to relate your feedback back to the branch manager.

Thank you for posting about your experience.

Gary

Hi Pointy,

You have a missed call from me today as I had preferred to also apologise to you in person.

I will send you a private message with some finer details but for the benefit of the forum, once again I would like apologise for the poor service you received from us.

Best regards, Gary

Thanks Gary.
I'm very happy indeed that Sixt has such a proactive asset as yourself.
