Question : how much does SIXT hold on your CC?

Hi all,

We'll be renting a car for one week at MIA in a few days. I just wanted to know how much SIXT will hold on the card.. I heard it was 3 or 4 times the amount of the rental. Any official info on this? Our rate, including all taxes and airport surcharges, will be 226$.

Any info would be appreciated!

should rather be twice the rental cost, and not 3-4times
unless it is a very very special expensive car., but then your rental price wouldnt fit.

Well that's the thing : it's an LCAR that I got for that price... Any official info?

2JZGTE , when you are done with the rental, please let me know how big hold Sixt put on your CC. I have very similar rental coming at MCO - 8 days, LCAR, rental price 238 USD.

Sixt T&C however states:

A deposit of up to three times the rental price is charged to the chosen means of payment as a security. The deposit for high-value vehicles may differ. The exact deposit is determined on collection since the amount is dependent on the vehicle.

Just got a reply by email from Sixt US customer service about deposit:

That is correct for a luxury line car our deposit/hold does not go below $2000 USD on a credit card. On cars up to full size the deposit is just 3 times the amount of the rental.

So Sixt gives amazing rates but puts hold for amount that can't be justified by any means given that all the insurances are included in rental price. For me this policy makes rental with Sixt unthinkable and I'll cancel my rental and switch probably to National. Got $350 rate from them with KLM/AF card for LCAR / 8 days in MCO. Sixt would be probably great idea if you rent economy and don't care about deposits and have a short term rental.

I've rented from Sixt several times. Every time I've rented with them, they put a "Hold" on the car of about 2x the quoted price of the rental, which usually falls off in about 7-10 days. For example, last year in Germany with a 9 day hire of a Mercedes E-Class (an upgrade), quoted 960 Euros and charged me in the region of 1800 Euros. I don't like their policy of putting holds on the credit card, but they have the best selections of cars all-round. This is true for all locations worldwide.
