Also should I just stick to Singapore or have a full one day trip to some place in Malaysia?

Despite being a small island, Singapore has a ton to see and do. When I was there, I explored the city by choosing where to eat. Check out Makan Sutra (http://www.makansutra.com/) and you can't go wrong. Even going to Makan Sutra's Gluttons Bay is well worth a trip as you'll leave with a heavy wallet and a full stomach.

By focusing on the food of Singapore, you'll get to know the people, the culture, and get to experience the city at all times of the day.

FYI, Tekka Centre is under renovation at the moment (not sure when it'll end, but not anytime soon).

One of the best chicken rice joints in Singapore -- and that's saying something -- is Tian Tian at Maxwell, but get there by lunchtime because they sell out fast.

SO what's the status of Tekka Market now? I had no idea it was under renovation.

Definitely hit up Maxwell Center for Tian Tian. You'd never know Chicken Rice could be so flavorful!

Still packaged up and won't be ready anytime soon. Maybe by the end of the year...

:( There's a place in there that makes an outstanding Mee Goreng.
