Can you recommend a fairly cheap tailor for prom dress?
We are taking a family trip to Singapore, and my daughter wants to have a prom dress made while we are there. Since this is something that only gets worn once, I am thinking I don't need to spend a lot of money on exquisite tailoring.
My questions:
Melissa
My questions:
- Can anybody recommend an inexpensive tailor?
- Is it reasonable to try to do this in one week?
- Should we bring fabric, or buy it in Singapore?

Melissa, Warm Welcome to FT!
Why Singapore to get a prom dress done? When would you be coming to Singapore? If you are coming in November/December, it's the "prom season" in Singapore and most department stores would carry a wide range prom dresses in their stock.
You can try Daniel Yam in Wisma Atria which have very very nice dresses. Here's their website, but it's not updated: www.danielyam.com
Allure in Raffles City has a slightly more oldish range, but still worth a look.
I know I am not answering your question, but hope this helps anyway!

I've seen absolutely beautiful fabrics for sale in Singapore!
So far as the ready made dresses go, most are small sizes. Singapore women are typically small by American standards of size and weight. Other things to buy in Singapore for prom night are evening purses, jewelry, hair decorations and scarves. I don't see anything wrong with having a dress custom made if you can't find the dress of her dreams on the rack.

If you want Thai silk, Arab St is the place to get it. i have never had anything made in Singapore but there are some ladies dressmakers in Holland Village - upstairs. This shopping centre is mainly aimed at expats so they will be used to western sizing. It is also a good place to buy thai silk scarves handcrafted bags jewellery etc. Not as cheap as Thailand but much cheaper than at home.
