No way to board planes at Changi with bottles of water…
Singapore Changi is wonderful but for me it has a very serious drawback. The way security is organized - at each gate - means you cannot buy a bottle of water or Coke at the airport to bring on board the plane. I suppose we all have our travel routines but I always like to have my own water or Coke bottle with me - regardless of the class I am flying. I think I have unconsciously started avoiding going through the airport for that reason! 😀. Is this an issue for anyone else ?

If your flight departs from one of the cluster gates in T3 (A1-A8, A17-A20, B1-B4), there is a small kiosk inside the gate area selling water, soft drinks, and snacks. But yeah, I don’t like the security setup at Changi either.

Not an issue for me. On LCC's I take an empty bottle and fill once through security. Water is as good or better than (IMHO) most bottled water. For non-LCC's don't really see it as much of a problem.

That’s weird - HKG has central security, so no security checks between post security shops & the plane (except the check at the gate for US bound flights).

We came in from the US and out to Korea, going thru security at HKG. It was at that checkpoint that we were forced to empty our water cans.

You can easily go up to the food court area (after security) to get as many bottles of waters or any other beverage you want. No one will stop you at the gate. Singapore used individual security checkpoints at EACH gate, so you can’t bring any bottle beverage into the plane.

This is fairly common on transits...for example, I recently transited at HND and you are also required to discard bottles of water/liquids as part of transit security.

At SIN (Like KUL) and a few other airports the security is done at the gate rather than a centralized location. This means if you buy water at a store in the departure terminal it will be confiscated at the gate. Thankfully they have gotten rid of this at the gate security at T4.
The HKG setup is pretty standard for international to international transit anywhere in the world. The SIN at the gate security is unique.

It does depend on destination, sometimes secondary checks are conducted at gates, well after security. Earlier this year travelling out of DPS (which has central security) to Australia, they were conducting secondary checks of hand baggage, and took away the water bottle I took from the lounge. They don't do that for DPS-SIN flights.

It’s not the same at all. You could have cleared security in HKG and went to Mannings in the terminal and bought 10 bottles of water for your flight with no issue getting on the plane with them.
