has Singapore changed its littering policy?

One of the things that I've always appreciated about Singapore is how clean and neat it is. You don't see trash everywhere like in many other cities (Rome comes to mind).

I visited two weeks ago and early Monday morning walked through the Esplanade park. I was shocked by what I saw. Trash everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Empty beer cans all over. There were hundreds of items of trash strewn throughout the park.

I walked through it again that evening and it appeared to have largely been cleaned up, but I was amazed that it ever looked like that.

Any insight from those who live in Singapore? Thank you.

It could be that there was some event (concert/etc) right before your visit.

Mileage run? Can't believe you went back to SIN already.

I think you should have taken a picture.

Sunday is the helpers and construction workers day off. Hundreds of them if not even a thousand all congregate around the Padang and Esplande Park.and sadly a mess is left behind. So come you passing through early Monday you would've seen this trash lef behind.

Note that Singapore is a cleaned city in that those living here aren't like Japanese or Koreans who'll clean up after themselves.

This! 👍

So, when there's a manpower crunch... there's cleanliness crunch, too

It does when you're going for 3MM status on United :-)

Plus I just love visiting SIN for a few days. Can't get enough it seems!

The "little india" area of Singapore often has lots of litter on the side streets...seems that the laws of Singapore don't apply as much there.
