SIN Overnight
I have booked a flight from HKT-LHR via SIN. 12hr layover overnight on one ticket - a couple of questions.
Will my bags be checked through? Will I need to book a room in Singapore and clear immigration? Never flown SQ or been to Singapore before so apologies for what may seem obvious questions to others. |
Your bags should be checked through if you're on a single ticket.
I believe there are a couple of transit hotels which are airside (Aerotel or Ambassador Transit Hotel), but they may be a little pricey and you may have to book early to secure a room. If you get a room in these hotels, you do not have to clear immigration. Think some people who have SKL access may use the sleepers in the lounge, but of course it's first come, first served. Yotel in Jewel and the Crowne Plaza are both landside and connected to Changi Airport. If you book a room in either of these hotels, you would have to clear immigration first, and from there it's a short walk/SkyTrain ride to the hotel depending on your arrival terminal. Not sure if there are any other options within Changi since I've never had to do an overnighter there! Of course, there are many other choices downtown - perhaps others can chime in re: whether it's worth the trek with a 12-h overnight layover. |

My Parents are heading on to AMS at around midnight, we arrive at around 9pm. I’m guessing I can stick with them airside whilst waiting for their flight? |

Thank you so much - Really helpful. The Jury’s Inn does look very nice and have no problem clearing immigration to head there. Not sure how far downtown is and whether it will be worth heading there.

You can definitely stay with your folks until they board their onward flight. Given that it's approaching the midnight hour, if you are planning on heading downtown just be advised that taxis have a late night surcharge in addition to the airport surcharge. Also, trains stop running around 12-1am depending on the day of the week. I haven't heard of a Jurys Inn in Singapore, so I can't help you much re: the logistics of making your way there! You should already have your onward boarding pass in hand, and I would recommend that you get yourself back to Changi airport at least 1 hour before your flight departs so that you have time to comfortably make your way to your departure gate.

Great advice, thankyou. I meant the Crowne Plaza btw, got my hotel chains mixed up!

My experience is that you could walk up to one of the transit hotels and get at least a room in one of them. Terminal 1 Aerotel is more likely to be booked. Terminal 3 Ambassador is the next easiest to get to and I've stayed there the last 2 times. If for some reason those two are fully booked, you could get the Ambassador at Terminal 2, but they'll warn you that there's a lot of hammering noise due to the renovation works at that terminal. You'll also have to go the long way if you're from Terminal 1, having to take the skytrain to 3, and then onward to Terminal 2 (my experience in late November as parts of Terminal 2 is closed off due to renovations).

To piggyback, I will be landing at SIN at 1:15am for a couple days before flying on. Haven’t sorted what hotel I’ll be spending a couple nights at, but does it make sense to book a 3rd night for when I land or is there some option at the airport that would make sense for a few hours of sleep?
|
I will also have a 12 hour layover in SIN and wondering where the best place to stay is. The airside airport hotels are way too expensive for me ($300). Does anyone know of any sleeper lounges or cubes? I've heard about them but don't have any details for them. Do you have to book in advance? How much do they cost? Are they truly sleeping lounges or merely reclining benches in general boarding areas?
I will be flying economy SFO-PNH via SIN and landing at 7pm, so having an affordable place I can sleep in for the night would be ideal. |

Trying to figure out a plan for my upcoming Changi situation and would like to get some suggestions as to what is best.
I will be in Singapore for 3 days at which time I have to fly to Bangkok to begin the SQ journey home. Its $1686 for a J ticket BKK to LAX but $4400 from SIN. I used some UA miles to grab a SQ flight mid day to BKK, will have 3 hours to check lounges out at BKK and then return to SQ arriving 8pm. Then 13 hours later the journey home begins with a flight to NRT and then onward to LAX. I'd like to spend a little time at Jewel and a decent amount of time checking out all the different things the terminals have to offer since it seems like a really awesome airport. I first am trying to decide do I keep my room in the city for that last night or better to move over near the airport? I think better to get closer to the airport but is it better to be airside at a transit hotel or landside at the Crown Plaza? I can enter Singapore when I arrive from BKK I assume so I could go back to the city or to the CP. However, when is the best time to explore the airport- at 8pm when arriving back from BKK or early morning before the 9am to NRT? I dont think I am there at the best times to check out all the diff.things as I assume most are closed at night? I guess I can show up a few hours early for the BKK flight and check things out then. Also if the Changi pool open all hours or no? Is there a fitness center you can access? I'm usually pretty good planning & strategizing this stuff but I dont know anything about Changi & I've heard you cant really come and go airside/landside like if I stayed at CP can I come in for dinner at the SQ lounge then go back out to the CP? Any suggestions on how to best plan this last part of my trip w/ this weird routing to go to BKK and come right back are appreciated. |
Additional question on Changi in case anyone sees this and knows Changi well…
What is the process to get from T1 to T4? I would like to check out all the OW lounges before a late flight on CX. is it a bus then transfer to a train ? Should I wak to T3 then grab a bus ? Little confused how it works Also can I enter at T1 so I only have to make the T1/T4 trip one time not both ways ? I will not have any bags to check but I remember reading some issues entering at T1 w a non T1 BP. |
Between T1 and T4 there are buses. Also buses from other terminals to T4 if it's landside. https://www.changiairport.com/en/air...and-jewel.html

Technically you could go back into town but that would be a wasted two way trip. IMHO night time is the best time to explore Singapore so I'd be doing that after returning from BKK. Things tend to be pretty dead in the early mornings. Can you come and go as you please through the border? I don't know. I've gone landside for pretty short stays in the past without a problem but I've never entered Singapore, a few hours later leave (for dinner), then go landside again to sleep etc etc. Another option is upon return from BKK go landside to do your exploring and if that is likely to go until midnight come back airside and book a transit room (6 hours). Then you can spend as much lounge time as you like and even hop from terminal to terminal. |
