Dengue Fever: Cause for Concern?
My wife and I are first time travelers to Singapore in August, and the first thing that popped up on Google when my wife typed "Singapore" is Dengue Fever. She is a bit concerned, as we don't qualify for any kind of vaccine because of our ages. Is this something we should be worried about? We'll be staying in a high-rise flat and using tons of bug spray, but is there any other tips people might offer to deal with this? Or should we just go about our vacation and not sweat this?

There's no vaccine against dengue.
If you're really concerned - cover yourself up (no shorts, or short sleeves), use plenty of bug spray, and don't spend time outside when the mosquitoes are most active (check when that is for these types of mosquitoes).

If you are this concerned, you should probably reconsider travelling to the tropics.... Personally, the thought has never crossed my mind.

Just go about your vacation.
You might want to check out this website to see where the clusters are:
https://www.nea.gov.sg/dengue-zika/d...engue-clusters
That said my friend lived in a red area and has a ground level condo with a terrace. I was never worried to spend time there as you say just bug spray up.
Getting bitten by mozzies in Singapore is rare as they fumigate very often.

I live in what NEA has classified to be a dengue hot zone and have been bitten a few times whilst doing my daily walks to the hawker centre and shops. Not bothering with the skeet repellent but I feel like I'm riding my luck. From what I hear and GPs say, the effects can be highly variable from individual to individual and the strain, from barely symptomatic to ICU. The situation is exacerbated by the daily monsoon rain currently. Earlier in the week, the NEA chap came by my flat to check for vectors (stagnant water), the second time since September I think.
