Coffee shop recommendations

I have 12hrs in Singapore, will be venturing out into the city.

Any recommendations from this list (or otherwise) for coffee shops?

Tong Ah is ok but a bit out of the way to get to.

Any Yakun and Wang cafe is decent.
These chain coffeeshops serve kaya toast and local coffee.
The local coffee is a lot cheaper and imo more tasty than at fancy cafes.
Lots of variations to tailor to your taste though.
They also have some local food dishes as well.

There is a whole tradition of coffee in Singapore. It's quite fun. Delicious. And not at all expensive.

A Kopitiam is a coffee shop. There are some that you see everywhere:

My favorite drink is: Kopi-C cosong
That is black coffee with condensed milk, and no sugar.

As I understand it, cosong is a malaysian word meaning 'empty' and in this context it means 'lite'

The kayatoast is good.
And most kopitiam will have some food items as well.

Softboiled eggs (called half-boiled in singapore) are popular.
I prefer a 'full boiled egg'

There are kopitiams in the airport, and in the new Jewel (landslide at Changi), as well as through out the city. You can't miss them.

Instead of purposely seeking out specific cafes (which more likely than not will serve Espresso-based drinks instead of the local sock coffee) ... if you'll be near / in a mall, seeking out one of the local coffee shop chains* and getting a set of kaya (sweet egg custard) butter toast, soft boiled eggs (locals eat it with white pepper and dark soy sauce, but I personally prefer the salty light soy sauce), and coffee (i always order less sweet otherwise it is overwhelmingly so) is probably the way to go.

* My go-to favourite is Ya Kun Kaya Toast, but Heavenly Wang, Killiney Kopitiam are good too ... try to avoid Toast Box if possible though cos the toast there sucks big time.

When you get to one of these above mentioned places, order Kopi-C Gao Sew Dai.
